Your Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) is the key to almost every government service in Pakistan, from opening a bank account and getting a SIM to applying for a passport. Every citizen can get one from age 18. It has to be renewed before it expires, and updated whenever details like your address or marital status change.

What to bring

  • Your old or expired CNIC (for renewal)
  • Parents' CNICs or a family member's CNIC (for a first card)
  • B-form / Child Registration Certificate (for a first card)
  • Proof of any change, such as a nikah nama for a marital status change

Take originals plus photocopies. Offices may ask for extra documents.

Your route

  1. 1

Gather your old CNIC or your parents' CNICs (first-time applicants).

  2. 2

Apply online through NADRA's Pak-ID service, or visit a NADRA centre.

  3. 3

Pick normal, urgent or executive processing and pay the fee shown.

  4. 4

Track your application and collect or receive your card.

Tips & common mistakes

  • Start renewal before the expiry date. An expired CNIC can block SIM, banking and travel services.
  • Pak-ID lets you apply from home, but a NADRA centre is easier if you need biometrics re-captured.
  • Double-check the spelling of your name. It must match your educational and passport records.
  • Keep the tracking ID or token number until you receive the card.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for a CNIC online?+

Yes. NADRA's Pak-ID service handles many renewals and modifications online. Some cases still need a visit to a NADRA centre for biometrics.

What if my CNIC is lost?+

You can apply for a duplicate through NADRA. If it may have been misused, it's sensible to inform your bank and mobile operator too.

Fees, documents and timelines change, so Raasta deliberately doesn't quote fees. Confirm current requirements on the official website before you apply. Spotted something out of date?
