Mobile phones brought into Pakistan from abroad must be registered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) through its Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). Unregistered phones are eventually blocked on local networks.
What to bring
- Phone IMEI number(s) (dial *#06#)
- CNIC or passport
- Proof of purchase or travel details, if asked
Take originals plus photocopies. Offices may ask for extra documents.
Your route
- 1
Dial *#06# to get your IMEI number.
- 2
Check the IMEI status on the DIRBS portal.
- 3
Register the device and pay the applicable duty.
- 4
Keep the confirmation. Your SIM will work once the phone is cleared.
Tips & common mistakes
- Check the IMEI before buying a used phone. A blocked phone won't work on any network.
- Dual-SIM phones have two IMEIs, and both need to be registered.
- Pay duty only through the official channel shown during registration.
